Media Production serves students that wish to put communication theory into practice by working in professional studio and production ecologies. This is a practical and practice-oriented major geared toward the mechanics of producing media. Covering production methods from pre-production to post-production, papers in this major will address effective design and implementation of image-text-motion, sound/music and audio-visual methods of communication. You will become cognisant multi-modal communicators through working in a range of production settings including film & documentary, professional studio ecologies, web-series production, factual media, podcasting, game design, sound design, soundscape, music, web media, and other forms of multimedia outputs.

Media Production is available as a first major for the Bachelor of Communication (BC). Media Production may also be included as a second major or minor in other undergraduate degrees, subject to approval of the Division in which the student is enrolled.

To complete Media Production as a single major for the BC, students must gain 135 points from papers listed for Media Production, including 105 points above 100 level, and 60 points above 200 level. Students must complete DSIGN125 or MEDIA102 and DSIGN141 or MUSIC140, 45 points chosen from DSIGN243, DSIGN271, MEDIA202 or MUSIC240 and 60 points chosen from the 300 level papers listed for Media Production.

To complete Media Production as part of a double major for the BC, or other undergraduate degree, students must gain 120 points from papers listed for Media Production including 90 points above 100 level, and 45 points above 200 level. Students must complete DSIGN125 or MEDIA102 and DSIGN141 or MUSIC140, 45 points chosen from DSIGN243, DSIGN271, MEDIA202 or MUSIC240 and 45 points chosen from the 300 level papers listed for Media Production.

To complete a minor in Media Production, students must complete 60 points from the papers listed for the Media Production major, including at least 30 points above 100 level.

Note:

Students should ensure that the pre-requisites on the 100-level papers enable them to enrol in the 200 and 300 level papers.
