Te Pūoho
Ko te Whare Wānanga o Waikato e tū mai nei, ko te Tangata te tohu, tīhei mauri ora!
This is the University of Waikato presenting to you, ‘The People’ is the emblem, Behold I live!!
Te Pūoho is a kaupapa dedicated to Māori student achievement which aims to:
- Inspire you to succeed academically.
- Empower you with the tools needed to navigate university life.
- Connect you to a whānau within your area of study and to opportunities throughout the University.
Our Te Pūoho hubs can be on Hamilton and Tauranga campuses and are a first point of contact for all your needs. Each hub has a friendly team of Whītiki Tauira — students who understand the struggles and rewards of university life and can provide guidance. The units also provide sporting, cultural and social opportunities throughout the year.

You're Welcome!
Te Toka a Tirikawa, our Māori mentoring unit, provides a holistic, proactive and inclusive service to make your educational journey as smooth as possible.
We provide support for all Māori students at our Tauranga Campus. Our friendly team of mentors are experienced university students who have achieved academically and have a wealth of knowledge and advice to help you.
The mentoring unit is also supported by our Māori Mentor Coordinator, who is the first port of call for all Māori students.
If any questions or issues arise, at University or at home, please do not hesitate to reach out to anyone in the team.
