The Population Change theme builds on Te Ngira's reputation for providing timely, rigorous analysis of population change for iwi, local government and community organisations.

It focuses on the sub-national dimensions of demographic, social and economic change. These include:

  • the implications of regional shifts from natural population growth to decline
  • work and settlement patterns
  • changing iwi, Māori and ethnic composition
  • dynamics of regional divergence and the implications of these shifts for land and resource use.
